We're delighted to share this recent exhibition review of Josi Smit's We Should Be Dancing, which ran at FCG from June 17 - July 29, 2023. Centred.ca author Kenna Robinson writes:

Using the visual language of disco culture, Smit creates a heartfelt and intimate reflection on the experience of coming of age as a young woman. Her use of the archival image and references to familiarities of the era creates an ambiguous time and reflective space wherein she and her mother come of age together. We Should Be Dancing is a considered and extraordinary look at the complex nature of being a daughter, becoming a mother, and what it is to understand one’s mother as a woman.

Centred is seeking applications from Visual Arts Writers for its Mentorship Program. Selected writers will have an opportunity to collaborate with a professional writer to create an article on a regional exhibition. Once the article meets the publication standards, it will be posted on the Centred online magazine website and the writer will receive $150 for their contribution.

Interested persons are asked to send a bio and a relevant piece of writing to Nida Home Doherty at nida@centred.ca

Deadline for applying is December 15, 2023.
