Volunteer

Interested in volunteering with FCG?

As a small artist-run centre, we're always looking for more volunteers to help us keep the Gallery going! If you’re interested in learning more about artist-run culture, supporting your local artist community, or getting your community service hours, we’d love to have you join us.

All volunteers will be provided with a digital volunteer handbook by the Volunteer and Membership Coordinator. When an opportunity for volunteering is available, those who have expressed interest in the type of opportunity will be contacted via email by the coordinator and/or the Gallery Director. If you volunteer with us for twenty hours a year, you also get a free Artist Membership! Please e-mail [email] if you have any questions.

Position Descriptions

Committee Interest:

Within our Board of Directors are sub committees that assist in programming initiatives. These committees help the Board of Directors fulfill the initiatives outlined in the Strategic Plan and Mandate of the Gallery. You do not need to be a board member to join a committee. If you are interested in participating on a committee please fill out the form below and the Board President will be in touch with more information and time requirements.

Exhibition Support:

Volunteers interested in exhibition support will be contacted for help installing and de-installing the exhibitions that are programmed in the Gallery space or in pop-up spaces. This often includes painting, using some hand and power tools, and working directly with the artists, Programming Chair, Technical Director, and the Gallery Director to bring the exhibitions to life.

Event Support:

Volunteers interested in providing event support will often be connected with our Hear Here Chair, our Youth Council Chair, or our Director to assist with the various events that run in the space. This may include live music events, workshops or networking events, as well as exhibition opening and closing receptions. Volunteers can expect to use their time collecting Pay-What-You-Can donations, operating merch tables, welcoming guests into the Gallery, and helping to support Gallery staff and volunteers with the setup/teardown of events. SmartServe designation is an asset, but not required.

Operations Support:

Anyone who’s interested in learning the ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ of an Artist Run Centre and wants to spend some time in the Gallery assisting with day-to-day tasks, ensuring we’re keeping connected with our artist community and stakeholders, and supporting the initiatives we have going on outside of the main-Gallery programming space are welcome. Internship inquiries are also welcome.

I just want to volunteer!

We’ll send you any opportunities we have available and look forward to working with you.
