Forest City Gallery
August 8 – 16th
Opening Reception: Saturday, August 9th, 5-7pm

Join us for the Annual Juried Exhibition presentation in partnership with Western University Visual Arts, gdaa-giiwemin by Genevieve Buchanan on view from August 8-16th.
Along the Southern coast of Lake Huron lies the nesting grounds of the thunderbird. Scattered among beds of shale are their eggs, also known as “kettles.” For decades, three of these kettles have been at Western University, but soon they will return home.
gdaa-giiwemin tells the story of this journey and invites others to walk along this path of repatriation.
The opening reception will be held on Saturday, August 9th from 5-7pm. We hope to see you there!
Artist bio:
Genevieve Buchanan (b.2003) is an emerging artist and a member of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation. In her work, Buchanan explores what it means to live on Turtle Island while examining complexities of contemporary Indigenous identity in colonial society. A central focus in her work has been on themes of appropriation, ownership, and repatriation—seeking to raise awareness and allow critical discourse on such topics. As a multidisciplinary artist, Buchanan spends a lot of time contemplating material and what it means to use them within certain contexts.
