CALL FOR BOARD DIRECTORS, 2023

 

Multiple Positions Available: Vice-President, Secretary, and Co-Chairs

Approximately 10-20 hours a month, minimum 2 year term

Volunteer/Non-remunerated 

Hybrid Remote/In Person

ABOUT FOREST CITY GALLERY

Forest City Gallery (FCG) was founded in 1973 by a nationally recognized group of London artists and musicians and is cited as one of Canada’s first artist-run centres. FCG is an artist-run centre founded on artistic autonomy with a commitment to excellence in programming exhibitions and events that reflect and address recent developments in cultural production. FCG serves to foster and support contemporary art, promoting dialogue among local, regional, and international arts communities. FCG represents artists of all disciplines and career levels with a focus on emerging artists and practices.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BOARD

Forest City Gallery’s Board is operational, all Board members are required to fulfill their assigned responsibilities and report their progress at Board meetings on a monthly basis. Board members are expected to take direction from the themes within FCG’s strategic plan which is developed every four years, the next strategic plan will be developed by the Board and Executive Director in 2024. 

Commitments of each Board member include:

  • 10-20 hours per month (meetings, working events, networking, administrative work, etc.)

  • Attend monthly Board meetings, committee meetings, events, and other as needed

  • Fundraise within the role’s capacity (planning events, sending emails, etc.)

  • Understand and advise on finances according to an annual budget

  • Operate under the direction of the current strategic plan

  • Participate in the development of the mission, vision and goals of the organization

  • Maintain partnerships with the community, membership, and stakeholders

  • Ensure transparency in all communication to community, membership, and stakeholders

  • Represent FCG in the community and collaborate with like minded organizations

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of London’s art and/or cultural communities and/or history

  • Ability to work within a team both collaboratively and independently

  • Commitment to 10-20 hours of volunteer labor per month

  • Passion for arts advocacy 

  • Self-identification as an artist is considered an asset

  • Knowledge of the arts and/or Canadian arts organizations considered an asset 

 

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Experience on a Board or within a charitable or not-for-profit organization

  • Legal experience in any level of government

  • Human resources

  • Fundraising, sponsorship, or marketing experience 

  • Grant writing, art writing, or education

  • Financial management - Charitable and not-for-profit financial experience is an asset

  • Social media, graphic design, videography, event planning are an asset
