FCG's PostBop Beathead Jazz Workshop, sponsored by LBMX

May 5 - May 9, 2024

May 5: Band set-up, levels, discussion

May 6 - 9: Workshopping Period, 12-5PM daily - All welcome!

Forest City Gallery is excited to host FIVE DAYS of postbop beathead jazz jamming, live on-site & continuously recorded. This public performance series and recording event is also a professional development opportunity for local musicians, offering on-site discussions, learning and mentorship. The resulting recordings from this session will be delivered to producers for (re)processing and (re)mixing, and ultimately recomposition, in the tradition of work by Teo Macero and Miles Davis (think Davis' landmark albums, In A Silent Way & Bitches Brew). All are welcome to not only observe but also participate in this 4-day workshopping event!

A full length LP will be sequenced from this work, pressed to vinyl, and distributed to all major streaming services via the gallery’s new imprint: FCG Hear Here!

Artists, photographers and videographers are also invited to drop in & observe the workshop during the gallery's open hours, and to use this living exhibit as material for visual art making. A selection of visual materials will be included in the promotional and printed matter for the subsequent vinyl pressing, with reproduction fees paid to artists.

FCG's PostBop Beathead Jazz Workshop is generously supported by LBMX and LBMX Place.
