Friday, March 1, 2013 to Friday, April 5, 2013
Opening Reception: Friday, March 1, 7:00pm
Forest City Gallery presents an exhibition by local artist Steve deBruyn. Rolls Through is on exhibit from March 1st to April 5th 2013. Artist Talk: Saturday, March 23, 1:00- 2:00 PM
Using local materials deBruyn builds immersive environments based on the forms and aesthetics of the skateboard ramp while stripping away all functionality. His investigations include technical questions pertaining to artistry, craftsmanship and technique. Each piece is individually crafted from local found materials which are then infused with painting and additional superfluous construction. deBruyn effectively (and literally) elevates the visual language of ground-based backyard DIY culture to the level of fine art discourse. Drawing links between the various communities that influenced and provided the found materials that form them, each installation is unique and site-specific.
Steve deBruyn is an artist living and working in London, Ontario, Canada. His main artistic output consists of painting, sculptures and large-scale installation art made predominantly from recycled and discarded materials. In the past few years deBruyn has focused on exhibitions and residencies across Canada and to date has never exhibited the same show twice. He frequently collaborates with others and is open to any and all possibilities when it comes to making artwork in Canada or abroad.
The artist would like to acknowledge the support of the Ontario Arts Council. Forest City Gallery gratefully acknowledges the support of the City of London, London Arts Council, Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts.
