Works by Stephanie Cormier
This exhibition reveals three stages in the Anti-Logo cause; its creation, its transition into a new belief system and its crusaders, the Anti-Logo League.
Addressing excess waste and mixing traditional and contemporary practices, the work references antiquated beliefs of weaving to create the universe; and recycling, technology and globalization as the creation of a new universe. In creating a belief system, humble materials are given new contexts. The Anti-Logo League Girls are fractured “freaks of commoditization”- crusaders, weaving strips of waste into new “non-logos”. Warning post-apocalyptic scavenger mentality, neo-pagan folk symbols honor recycling as a contemporary survival technique from past worlds and meld junk into mystical implications.
