Media Collaboratory Call for Workshop Submissions

ree

Forest City Gallery is delighted to announce an open call for our workshop series in the Media Collaboratory (Media Collab for short) at Forest City Gallery from March to October 2026.

We are seeking proposals from professional artists interested in media art, broadly defined, to present workshops either in-person or online that investigate, interdisciplinary and experimental approaches to new media. This could include: hands-on experimentation workshops, exploration of emergent technologies, skill-sharing and process-based inquiries, a new take on a previous workshop, technological experimentation, and production or post-production of media-based artworks.

We support artists interested in submitting workshop proposals that offer alternative approaches to collective & peer-to-peer learning. Our current capacity for in-person workshops is limited to 15 participants and access to equipment is limited. Workshop proposals must consider analogue or digital technology from a low barrier point of view.

Selected applicants will commit to leading their workshop for a duration of 2 - 4 hours, as a one-off session, and will receive a CARFAC artist fee. A small materials budget is available, pending budgetary approval. Staff will work with selected artists to meet the technical requirements of their workshop, however it is the responsibility of the artists to procure equipment required for the workshop.

Submissions must include:

  • An artist bio (150 - 200 words)

  • CV that highlights artistic and professional achievements (max. 2 pages)

  • A two page workshop proposal that includes:

    • Workshop description to be used for promotion, which includes the detailed skills and/or learning outcomes of the workshop (150 - 250 words)

    • Intended skill level and expected technical expertise of participants

    • A list of materials up to $100

    • A detailed list of technical requirements that considers low barrier access

  • Support Material: Please include a link to your website, or up to 5 images, or a link of up to 5 minutes of video work to supplement your proposal. These materials should either showcase the product of the workshop, or demonstrate your practice.

For our past Media Collab workshops visit our website here.

We invite interested applicants to apply. Should applicants need any accommodations during the application, they are encouraged to reach out to collaboratory@forestcitygallery.com for alternative deliverables and/or support. Please note that any associated travel costs will not be covered, but we are open to hosting online and/or hybrid workshops.

The deadline for submissions is January 8th 2026.

Submissions must be emailed to the Media Collaboratory Coordinator, Lianne Zannier: collaboratory@forestcitygallery.com. Submissions should be compiled into a single .pdf file and labeled with your name (eg: ArtistName_FCGMediaCollabWorkshopCall2026).

Only selected artists will be contacted. If you have any questions regarding this call for submissions please don’t hesitate to contact Lianne.

Forest City Gallery’s Media Collaboratory workshop series has been made possible through funding from The London Community Foundation’s Community Vitality Grant.
