Saturday, July 4

1–4 PM

Free

Facilitated by Michelle Wilson and Candace Dube

Inspired by the plants and concepts at play in the exhibition Those in Glass Houses…, Forest City Gallery will host a plantain salve-making workshop led by master herbalist Candace Dube, owner of Be Well Botanics, with support from exhibiting artist Michelle Wilson.

In this free, hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to create their own medicinal topical salve to take home, using plantain—a resilient and often overlooked plant featured in the exhibition. Together, we will explore both its healing properties and the layered cultural histories of this frequently maligned species.

This afternoon of creativity, conversation, and community offers a chance to engage more deeply with the ideas behind the exhibition through making, storytelling, and shared learning.

Open to all; participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged.

We hope you’ll join us!

Bio: Candace Dube is a Master Herbalist, educator, and lifelong student of the Land. Her mixed ancestry and queer identity inform her approach to relational accountability, community responsibility, and the ethical considerations required when working with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and the Land herself.

Michelle Wilson is a queer, neurodivergent artist and mother living as an uninvited guest in Guelph, Ontario. Her practice approaches artistic collaboration as a form of anti-colonial care work. Rather than centring the myth of the individual artist, she works through enmeshed networks—creating conditions for many hands, stories, and ways of knowing to gather through shared creation.

Thank you to our funders the London Arts Council, Ontario Arts Council, Canada Council for the Arts and the London Community Foundation for their support to make our exhibitions and programming free and accessible for all.
