Opening reception in conjunction with Activation
Lorraine Thomson is from Markham, Ontario and now resides and works in London, Ontario. She recently graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Western Ontario in 2011. Her installation entitled “Entanglement” from her graduating exhibition was chosen for the juried Forest City Gallery Exhibition Opportunity Award.
In this time of high-tech gadgets and science, quick-fixes and isolationism, she has a desire to produce works that are hand-crafted, and involve simplicity, extended time, touch and connection. The human search for meaning and evidence of the hand-made are of interest to her and considerations of line, tension, and interconnection are all take-off points.
Reminiscent of spider webs, nostalgic string art, Spirograph drawings and rec-rooms, the work invites the viewer to be immersed in this world and navigate their way through it as they pass through the space.
