The Soft Skill for the Month of May is: make your own thaumatrope or ‘wonder turner.’ This 19th century optical toy is often considered an important precursor to film animation. Learning how to make your own is a great introduction to the basics of frame-by-frame animation and the stroboscopic effects that many other optical toys of the 19th century relied upon.
Stop by the gallery at any point during our drop-in hours of 3-7 on Thursdays during the month of May and learn how to make your own with Media Collaboratory Coordinator Lianne Zannier.
This drop-in activity is free and open to all ages. All supplies will be provided.
Soft Skills is a monthly open session that provides an informal space to learn new techniques, software, or technologies through one-on-one or group sessions. The aim of Soft Skills is to challenge the preconception that technology is hard, and create a learning environment that encourages risk-taking and experimentation.
Each month the Media Collab teaches a specific Soft Skill that you can learn during our drop-in hours, between 3-7pm on Thursdays at Forest City Gallery.
