Hear Here returns on Saturday, May 24th for a wonderfully weird variety show!
Performers include alternative dream-folk artist Anddre Mafra, art punk group The Film Critics, and the lo-fi-experimental indie pop of the ggruff patches. Doors open at 7pm and the cost of admission is $10 or pay-what-you-can.
Artists:
ggruff patches melissa, adam, & mike are the ggruff patches! the "gg" stands for genius genius, mike's solo project, and the "ruff patches" is a callback to a pervious iteration called genius genius & the rough patches. Things are a bit messier now.
Anddre Mafra Hailing from Brazil and now based in Canada, Anddre Mafra is a singer-songwriter reminiscent of José González and Damien Rice. His sound is a warm acoustic medley of stories, memories, and feelings, all inspired by his journeys across the globe. His catalogue is entirely self-produced, full of skillful arrangements and dreamy acoustic songscapes, proudly sung in both English and Portuguese.
Anddre is the recipient of the Aldir Blanc Grant (Brazil, 2020) and was nominated for "Songwriter of the Year" during his first year in the Music Industry Arts program at Fanshawe College (2022). He was also awarded "EMAC Band of The Year" in 2023 with Anddre & The Reflections — a six-piece indie-folk collective from London, ON, and recipients of the London Arts Council Community Arts Investment Program grant for 2023.
The Film Critics Jangly short bursts of energy. Kellen and Sophia deliver dynamic offset guitar riffs while Issac lays down frantic drum patterns. It's danceable and akin to early UK Messthetics art punk groups (ie television personalities, digital dinosaurs, thin yogurts etc).
We look forward to seeing you there!
