Is your feed flooded with cyberdecks? Whether you are a technologist or a casual tinkerer, or if you are curious about DIY technology, hacking, and circuit bending, join our next Soft Skills series: Build Your Own Cyberdeck! These custom-made personal computers, often with beautifully curated hardware modelled after the cyberpunk and cyberfeminist aesthetic, can be built as portable e-readers, journals, music players or miniature desktops. Cyberdecks reject the sleek coldness of consumer electronics, leaning into the (cyber)punk qualities of repairability and self expression.
If you want to learn more about open source software, Linux, single board computers, hacking, and customizing hardware, join our Soft Skills working group. Together, we will support each other in the design and fabrication of our own cyberdecks! On the third Thursday of every month, our cyberdeck working group will meet to discuss material sourcing, design ideas, and provide opportunities to troubleshoot with a group of likeminded makers.
A cyberdeck can be as simple or as complex as you like. This Soft Skills working group will help you troubleshoot all the steps.
Participants are required to cover their own material costs.
This working group will meet once a month from October 2026 to April 2027 (excluding December), starting on October 22nd.
