Bruce Nauman: Audio/Video Piece for London, Ontario

Friday, January 14, 2011 to Saturday, February 19, 2011

Opening reception: Friday, January 14, 7:00pm

Curated by Christopher Régimbal

The Forest City Gallery presents Bruce Nauman: Audio/Video Piece for London, Ontario, a major exhibition that revisits the American artist Bruce Nauman’s first Canadian exhibition, which was held at the 20/20 Gallery in London, Ontario in February and March of 1970.  Since it was first shown in London, Audio/Video Piece for London, Ontario has been included in several major surveys of Nauman’s work, notably in the Golden-Lion-winning exhibition Topological Gardens at the 2009 Venice Biennale, carrying with it the name of the city where it was first exhibited.  The current exhibition, Bruce Nauman: Audio/Video Piece for London, Ontario, at the Forest City Gallery is not only a homecoming for this artwork, but an opportunity to reflect on the role that artist-run galleries, like the 20/20 Gallery and, later, the Forest City Gallery, played in the new internationalism of the Canadian art world at the end of the 1960s.
